making faithful disciples for Jesus Christ

Young Church

Our Young Church programme includes the Nursery, Sunday worship and teaching for our young people ranging from preschool to Sr. High. We also have weekly activities for the Jr. & Sr. High School youth and monthly for the Grade 5 and 6 (56 Club). These programmes are summarized below.

Nursery

Our Nursery is for infants and toddlers up to the age of two and is open during the 9:00 and 11:11 A.M. services. Nursery volunteers are caregivers who love babies and have a heart for the support and encouragement of young families and those who are new to the parish.

Little Kids' ROCK

Kids' ROCK

This programme is for children ages 2 to 4. The focus is on introducing preschoolers to the love of God and what may be their first class-room experience. Activities include telling Bible stories, crafts related to the stories, and games. We also introduce the children to learning Bible verses.

Kids' ROCK

This programme is for Kindergarten to Grade 4. The curriculum is based on the "Promiseland" curriculum produced by Willow Creek, and is designed to lay down the spiritual foundations that, in God's timing, will lead a child into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Activities include: Welcoming activities, large group worship and teaching, small group discussions and games (groups are divided by age and grade). The purpose of the small groups is to apply what they learned in the large group and make it relevent to their every day life.

Y56 & 5-6 Club

Kids' ROCK

Y56 includes all the Grade 5&6 students. They meet separately to focus on the needs of this age group and continue to develop and build on their personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The topics studied are relevant to the issues unique to their lives.

All programmes use a variety of media to present the lessons to encourage active participation by the children.

The 5-6 Club (Grade 5&6) meets monthly, on an evening, for a fun activity, such as: laser tag, swimming, bowling, sleepover, and game activities at the church. The purpose for the 56 Club is to build lasting relationships and community with their peer group.

Youth

The youth program at St. James is established to meet the needs of students in grades 7-12. We aim to facilitate the youths' exposure to God and their faith development by presenting an exciting atmosphere through various events and activities, along with sound biblical teaching and worship. Our group provides a safe and fun environment where youth should feel accepted. Ultimately, our desire is to provide opportunity for each teen to discover the saving power of Jesus Christ, and to learn how to apply His teachings to his/her daily life.

Youth

Tuesday Night

Youth meet from 7:00-9:00 P.M. for a variety of activities as well as worship and prayer.

Sunday Morning Youth Group

At 9:00 A.M. and 11:11 A.M. the Jr. High and Sr. High students meet to discuss teen and faith related issues.

Youth Camps

Camps are a great way for the youth group to solidify their relationships with one another as well as to challenge and strengthen their faith.

Fall Camp: A fun weekend of games, worship and discussions in October.

Ski Camp: A couple of days at Sunshine to shake the winter blues.

Sr. High Retreat: A weekend of fellowship at a cabin just outside of Fernie.

Camping: A few days in the summer tenting at Mt. Kidd.
