The Mission Committee's role is to help the people of St. James understand and support the mission of the church throughout the world, and recommend to the Clergy and Wardens where to spend the tithe (10%) of St. James' income on mission support.
Requirements to be a member of the Mission Committee include having an interest in the work of the Gospel beyond the parish boundaries, undertaking regular correspondence with at least one of the full time missionaries supported by the parish, helping the committee communicate effectively with the parish, and attending meetings on a regular basis.
This Ministry is designed to care for the needs of others by looking after refreshment when people gather. Hospitality supports other ministries by providing décor, food and beverages, setting up, serving and cleaning where required. Our team members enjoy cooking, baking, hosting, billeting and help with driving guests to specific events. We believe that hospitable people often "entertain angels unawares."
Maintenance Job Jar
Routine maintenance such as replacemenet of light bulbs, minor repairs, etc. is carried out by the custodian during the week. Special projects such as painting and general repairs are carried out with the support of volunteer labour.
Gardening and Lawn Maintenance
Gardening responsibilities have been divided for a number of years between maintenance of the flowerbeds and grass cutting.
Every summer a schedule is placed on the "sign-up" table located in the Fireside room for the months of June to August. It takes approximately 4 hours to cut all the grass. All the tools, lawnmowers, gas, and bags are provided. Please watch for the announcement when the schedule is posted for you to sign up.^^ Back to top of page
