making faithful disciples for Jesus Christ

Compassion Ministries

NeighbourLink

NeighboourLink, headquartered in N.E. Calgary, assists individuals and families in need. NeighbourLink relies on church volunteers in local communities, primarily to deliver food hampers, help move furniture items, and give rides to medical appointments.

Inn From the Cold

The Inn is open to 15 homeless people, mostly families, to receive 3 meals, a relaxing evening and a clean bed in a secure environment. On the third Friday/Saturday of each month, St. James hosts the Inn at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, 14 Avenue and 10 Street S.W.

Refugees

The Refugee ministry is a team of people who provide orientation, ongoing support, and friendship to refugees for about their first two years in Canada. We help familiarize the refugees with Canada's health, banking, education, housing and employment systems. Most importantly, we are their friends.

Bag Lunch

Three Sundays a month a team of people make about 100 nutritious sandwiches that we take downtown to the Exit, a program of Woods Homes that works with young people on the streets. They use our sandwiches to attract the young people into their facility where they are provided with friendship, counseling and encouragement.

Hymn Sing

The Hymn Sing Team participates in the worship at the Chinook Care Centre on Glenmore Trail. The team enjoys visiting and leading the singing with the seniors. The ability to read music is not a requirement. A sense of caring for Seniors is what this ministry is all about.

St. Edmund's Food & Clothing Bank

We support the outreach of St. Edmund's through donation of non-perishable food items, clothing and household linens. Donations may be brought to St. James and are delivered to St. Edmund's on Monday or Thursday, or you may take them directly to St. Edmund's on these days.

Good Food Box

The Good Food Box is a program of Community Kitchens of Calgary. It provides a box of fresh fruit and vegetables at reduced cost, once a month. St. James is a depot for the program. We collect the orders from customers during the month and coordinate the distribution of the boxes at the end of the month.

ESL Outreach

This program is designed to provide support to new Canadians in teaching language skills and provide general support. The ESL Team Mission statement includes:

"St. James Anglican is a Christ-centred church. Volunteers in ESL Outreach Ministry demonstrate Christ's love to their neighbours by meeting the need for English language and social integration through interactive ESL conversation tutoring within an accepting and affirming atmosphere."

ESL sessions are generally scheduled for Monday afternoons and Wednesday evenings.
