Our Staff
In order for St. James to run smoothly and to support the many volunteer Team Leaders and the numerous volunteer members, we employ a number of staff to do a variety of tasks.
Our Rector: Reverend Canon Arthur Sheffield. He is responsible for everything we do as a church, and he really cares about each one of us.
Our Associate Priest: Tony Grainger, who shares responsibilities with Arthur and cares no less about us!
Our Office Coordinator: Laurel Bridges is employed full time to answer the telephone, facilitate communication within the church, and basically make sure everything runs smoothly. If she can't answer your questions, she knows who can!
Our Youth Pastor: Dmitri Martini is dedicated to enabling the Christian growth of our teens in creative and exciting ways.
Children's Coordinator: Yvonne Kern is in charge of the teaching and growth of our youngest members, from babies to Grade 6.
Lay Pastor: Betty Pike supports Tony by keeping track of families in need and hospital visitations.
Check the picture directory in the Entrance Way next to the office, and get to know the Wardens, Vestry Members and Staff.
All programme ministry activities are coordinated by volunteer Team Leaders who in turn are supported by many more volunteers. These Teams are entrusted with tasks to oversee the programmes necessary to fulfill our mission.
Some of these Teams include: worship, outreach, pastoral care, Altar guild, home groups, music ministry, missions and outreach, teaching the young church, prayer team, and caregivers, to name a few.
How We Are Organized
The legal entity of St. James is the Corporation, which is made up of the Rector (Sr. Pastor) and two Wardens; the Rector appoints the Rector's Warden and the People's Warden is elected at the Annual General meeting by those members in attendance. The Corporation is supported by Assistant Wardens who are either appointed by the Rector or elected by members at the Annual General meeting.
The corporation is also supported by a Vestry (Advisory Council) of eight elected members of the parish community. The Vestry acts as both a sounding board and an ongoing source of input and feedback with the Programme and Team Leaders and individual parishioners.
